Upgrade Details:

The customer brought in their brand-new 2025 Subaru 86 GR, and the challenge was clear—no one currently makes integration kits for this model, making it tricky to install an aftermarket radio while retaining key features like the reverse camera and steering wheel controls.

After carefully examining the factory radio, we discovered it wasn’t deeply tied into critical systems like door locks or vehicle settings, which gave us the green light to move forward with a full upgrade.

We opted for a Sony head unit, and after creating a custom cut-out template, we found that it perfectly filled the space left by the original radio. By mounting it as flush as possible, we ensured a clean, factory-like appearance—with no visible gaps or exposed wiring behind the dash.

We successfully retained the factory steering wheel controls and hardwired the original reverse camera into the factory harness, meaning no factory functions were lost.

For the audio upgrade, the customer supplied Hertz Mille 6.5" component speakers, which we powered using a Kicker Key 4-Channel amp in bi-amp mode—allowing the front speakers to run fully active. To round out the system, we installed a 10-inch subwoofer in the boot for that extra low-end punch.

In the end, the new radio fit seamlessly into the dash, looking right at home. Anything smaller would’ve left visible gaps. With the upgraded system, the audio performance now matches the bold new look of this GR86.
